Whale/Dolphin Watching

Panama is blessed by having over 30 species of cetaceans (Whales & Dolphins) found in it's waters.  Most of those on the Pacific side.

Humpback whales from both the Northern & Southern hemispheres come here to give birth and breed.  This is the only place in the world where whale populations from both hemispheres can actually meet!

Come spend a day with us watching the Whales and Dolphins in their natural habitat.   We will go out from Panama City and spend several hours on the boat looking for Whales, Dolphins, Sea Turtles, Manta Rays and any other interesting marine life we might find on our journey.   Then we will take you to a secluded area on the back side of Taboga island where you can snorkel* and swim and see some of the smaller and colorful tropical marine life near the coast.  After your dip in the refreshing Pacific ocean we will take you around to the front side of Isla Taboga and dock at a seaside restaurant where you can enjoy a cool drink and some local seafood for a late lunch**.

We have two options for this tour.  For smaller groups from between 2-8 people we will go on a small launch with a shade cover and the tour will last approx. 6 hours.   For groups of 10 or more people we will go out on a 72' schooner and lunch will be served on board rather than stopping on Isla Taboga.

 The Boats

All of our Captains are very experienced, competent and professional.  They are licensed and each boat has insurance.    Capt. Alex of our launch has attended courses in how to maneuver around Cetaceans and has an environmentally friendly motor which is quieter and is more gas efficient and cleaner for the environment than a normal motor.

The tours are conducted with the utmost respect for all marine life we may encounter.

Guarantees:  Of course we cannot guarantee that we will see the Whales and Dolphins as they are truly wild creatures and we cannot predict where and when we will see them.  We do guarantee you that we will travel to areas where we are most likely to see these incredible creatures and we will do everything we can to give you a fun tour and unforgettable day on the waters of Panama.

Your Guide

Anne grew up boating in the San Juan Islands of Wash. state and British Columbia.  Her family's home was on the bay near Olympia, WA and when weather permitted, would often watch Orca whales and Seals & Sea Lions while doing her homework on the beach.   Her father was very active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary and she often accompanied him on patrol.  She was also a life guard and certified swim instructor so she is very safety conscious around boats and the water.

Anne is also a Biology majoy with a minor in Animal Behavior and was a zookeeper and has been a film and TV animal trainer for many years.  She is a very experienced boater and knowledgeable about marine life and all animals.

Whale Season

The Humpback whales are most often found in tthe Panama waters on the Pacific side from June - October.    However, we are likely to see Dolphins at any time of the year and there are many other species of whales, including Orcas, that could be sighted at any time of year.

Technically Panama's rainy season is from May - November.  However, it is nothing like the rainy season in Seattle where your guide, Anne is from originally.  During the rainy season in Panama it may rain very hard for a 10 - 20 minute period and then move off and the sun always comes back out to dry you off quickly.  These rain squalls may happen once during the day or several times or not at all.  We do see the sun every day and the rain squalls are very localized and easy to see coming and going so we will do our best to avoid them and if needed wait them out and then go back to the serious business of having a great day on the sea!
